Then there is the totally unique Jameos del Agua, which defies descriptions as it is a multi-use space that combines gardens, a museum, restaurant, auditorium and swimming pool to incredible effect. The eighth wonder of the world is how some have described it.

As the recent introduction of more affordable flights to Lanzarote has begun to bring more independent travellers to the island, the legacy of this extraordinary artist is being discovered all over again by a new type of visitor. All of which should help to dispel the somewhat negative image the island was tarnished with some years ago and which it clearly doesn´t deserve.
